Great wine, excellent food, and lots of fun

The Festival starts at 10h00 to 17h00.

Wineries at the Festival

Taste the Elim area’s unique wines, crafted by the extreme growing conditions here: from the marginal soils to the cool coastal winds. Each winery will offer you tastings at the festival at individual stalls, and the opportunity to take a piece of the Elim Wine Ward home with you.

Get a little more intimate with our winemakers

Join the winemakers from various Elim wineries for an intimate tutored wine tasting. Get to know the wines and the winemakers in one-on-one sessions. As a wine connoisseur, taste the unique traits of our Elim wines and share your thoughts with us. Or as a wine beginner, learn what makes a great wine, and how to distinguish the flavours and aromas.

Our intimate tutored wine tastings:

11:00 – Find out what makes our area’s Sauvignon Blancs so special.

Dirk Human, founder and winemaker of Black Oystercatcher Wines, will be tasting a range of the area’s distinctive cool-climate Sauvignon Blancs and telling you more about the unique characters achieved in the region. Wines will range from older vintages to current releases. See how well these wines can age.

12:00 – What makes Wooded White wines from the Elim area so exciting?

Strandveld Vineyards winemaker Conrad Vlok presents this very interesting tasting, which will cover a diverse range of white blends which have all spent some time again in oak. This tasting is not to be missed and includes an exceptional range of delicious vintage and more current wines.

13:00 – Are cool-climate Shiraz and Shiraz blends the best reds coming from the Elim region?

This tutored tasting is presented by Sijnn winemaker, Charla Haasbroek. Shiraz is creating a stir in our area; find out why by tasting an interesting range of complex blends from the 2008 to 2013 vintages.

Tastings cost R100 per person, and can be booked through Webtickets. Seats are limited to 22 people. The wines being shown are mostly vintage wines from the winemaker’s vinoteques and these tastings are a unique opportunity to taste these limited wines and have a chance to discuss them in a quiet, intimate setting with some of the region’s most experienced winemakers.

Other liquid reasons for joining

The Elim area is also home to wonderful craft beer, like the most southerly brewery, Fraser’s Folly, which will be available at the festival. And the innovative and fun Cederberg Brewery will feature their well-known Boggom Blond Ale and Voertsek India Pale Ale at the event.

Don’t forget the local fresh produce market

Enjoy a range of fresh produce and other country food at the festival – with the produce made by the region’s innovative local culinary talents. There will be delicious hearty meals to eat at the festival, perfectly paired with your wine. Or take home a host of products, like salad dressing, home-made lemonade or mousse.

Other goodies to take home with you

It’s not only about the wine and food. Hand-crafted pottery, products made from wine barrels, beautiful fynbos bouquets and so much more will be on offer at the festival.

Twice as Nice

And lots of action around you throughout the day

The Elim Wine Festival is an opportunity to share stories with old and new friends, sip delicious cool-climate wines and eat the best local food.

But just to keep you on your toes, we’ve included a great line-up of performances, like

  • A savvy sheepdog performance, showing just how smart these animals are;
  • Fantastic live music by multi-talented Nic Stevens;
  • And check out the Vintage Tractor Parade – old workhorses that have a lifetime of stories to tell.

Please note: In previous years, we hosted a mountain bike and trail run event. In 2016, we’ve decided to rather focus on our reason for being there: great wine, delicious food and a good time with family and friends. So there’ll be no strenuous activities such as biking or running this year.
